Hiking 2026-03-08

🗓️When: 2026-03-08 Sunday

📍Where: Richard Bong State Recreation Area

🥾How far: 7.39 miles

🌹 Roses: Proud of myself for hiking a longer distance than my usual, especially since I didn't get to hike much all winter. I was having a great energy day despite the previous couple days having been rough. It also helped that the trail had very little elevation and the terrain wasn't terrible. Saw a handful of little snakes, a noisy crane, woodpeckers, a snapped tree that landed on another tree so it was sideways in the air, creeks, ponds and lakes, etc. The golden grasses swaying in the wind were very pretty.

🥀 Thorns: No complaints about the hike itself. Quite a bit of pain and fatigue afterwards which is to be expected, especially for a spoonie. Lots of left knee and ankle pain so I've been running on low spoons and resting since then. Using my cane as needed. Due to the nature of my chronic illnesses, I can have a great day where I can hike or I can be in so much pain that it's difficult to even get out of bed. But this is a topic for another post.
